Our 12th Anniversary

I already wrote my blog post about my FABULOUS Hubby and what a great guy and a wonderful husband and father he is, so this post is simply about the events of our day. Today John was in charge of a baptism at our church, so he spent the morning filling the font, printing off programs, and preparing a talk.........I napped. I know I sound like a slug, but it was nice to see him scurrying around making ready for an event (rather than me) for a change ;) After the baptism we picked up our babysitter and ran off to see the AVENGERS! I had seen this film already in the US, but as John hadn't and really needed to see it in the theatre and I really didn't mind staring at Thor.......away we went. John and I LOVE going to movies together. There are many commonalities that John and I share, but our over active imaginations and abilities to live vicariously through films, books, and theatre are pretty synonymous with each other. We went, ate our popcorn, snacked on our sweets, sipped on our soda's and became part of the film. We loved it. One anniversary we shared before we had kids we did a movie double header after a fine dinner at "Famous Dave's Barbecue." Ahhhhh, the good old days. We loved chatting on the way home about how awesome the film was and how we can't wait for more to come, both of us like teenagers again. It was a good anniversary.

Hubby bought me a few dozen roses.

I bought Hubby a printed silk antique picture of Churchill. We both think Churchill was a pretty remarkable man and John is always going on about having a study one day, so I thought it worked. Plus, it will always be remembered that I bought it for him whilst we were living in England.

Love me this man. John cannot be replaced, if anything ever happens to him I will be a widow until I die. Once you have had the best you just can't "settle." Love you babe.

Menorca, Spain - Day:6

Kids never cease to amaze me. Ads met this cute girl from Poland who did not speak one word of english, but that fact did not keep them from becoming fast friends. The two of them palled around the disco and used hand gestures to communicate various different things. I sat back in complete adoration.

Hubby and I knowing that it is our last night are feeling the bitter pains of returning to the daily grind and frigid temperatures.

Our entertainment was a group that did a Michael Jackson musical tribute. Ads LOVES the King of Pop, so she was in heaven.

At the end the kids were able to get up onstage and join in the singing. What! A stage? Of course Ads was up there and I was grateful she hadn't snatched a microphone off of one of the singers. Ads loves to perform and spends nearly every waking hour choreographing and songwriting for her shows. Bless her.

This pretty much ends our trip. "Back to life, back to re-al-i-tyyyy......doo doo doo doooooo." I am grateful that I was able to go to a lovely beach and get warm again. It's funny how much I love the winters here because they are so much more mild than our UT winters, but I miss our hot desert summers in UT.......really bad. Now if I could merge UT and the UK together it would be Utopia and would actually be called Hawaii ;) Time to get back to the grind and ready for our summer festivities to begin.

Menorca, Spain - Day: 5

Today we did a little excursion to the market. I LOVE going to markets! We sauntered around and checked out all of the local goods. I bought a pair of Harem pants that I loved and only regret not getting a few more pairs. They had some really cute and unique Harem pants.

John is the pastry king and went and found the best sweet roll we had ever tried.

Oh baby!

I love that our Liam is not afraid of other kids or people.........most of the time. Today was one of the times I loved it. Not knowing anyone, this boy was ready to join the fray.

There was a bigger kid playing king of the hill on this playground toy and William like David approached this Goliath without an ounce of fear. I stood back and let him stretch his wings to fly. Some parents would have gasped, freaked, and panicked, but I love watching to see what my kids do and how they react in different situations. Obviously if I were to feel like my kids were in any kind of danger I would not just stand back and watch. After spending 6 years teaching Jr. High in a public school I observed different types of parenting and have found that the helicopter parent is the most debilitating to the independence, creativity, and confidence in kids. Helicopter parents are the ones who get to spend their golden years supporting their adult children who never developed the necessary skills to make it on their own. These are simply my personal observations and opinions. I know that there are plenty of people who feel like I should have a tighter leash on my kidlets, but I can also tell you that my kidlets don't have to be entertained by me 24/7, they have their own minds and they spend hours spreading their wings developing independence.

As we were getting ready to get back on the bus we saw a protest parade heading down the street. I was turning to document it when I caught sight of 2 LDS missionaries and a missionary couple walking toward us. What are the chances? We stopped them and chatted for a few minutes before we had to sprint to our bus before it left us. Loved the market and when we returned back we went turned to sun and swim mode.

Menorca, Spain - Day: 4

Today we did the same things as we had done the days before and then this evening we bagged the floor show and headed to the beach to catch some pictures while the lighting was perfect. I love these pictures of Ads. We were able to catch a pretty good shot of Liam with John......which is miraculous.

Sun setting over the bay.

This boy has the most chewy delicious cheeks that I just want to munch away on.

My girl

Wanting to play ball.

A dirty look from a boy who is tired and wants to play ball instead of take pictures.

Menorca, Spain - Day: 3

We started our day with a "Thomas the Train" tour of the local area. The kids loved the train ride as I sat in shock and awe at how vacant everything was. You get a really great idea of just how bad the economy has become in Spain when you see buildings left empty, production ceased, and construction equipment sitting out to rust.  It made me feel really sad for the people here who have had their lives dramatically affected by the difficult economic situation the world is facing. Sad, so very sad. We did enjoy the beauty of the island and the kiddo's loved Thomas.

Here are some of the seaside views from our train ride.

After our train ride we decided to head to the beach. Liam always gets more wild and crazy when he gets tired and it was nearing nap time. As we walked down to the beach John remembered he had forgotten something and so he turned around and went to go grab it. Liam pitched a fit and wanted to go with his dad but I wouldn't let him and so we waited by the little boardwalk for dad to return. When I saw John coming I headed onward to the beach to grab an umbrella and a great spot near the seaside and left Liam right there where John was. Well Liam in his true wild boy fashion started to horse around on the pier which he fell off of and managed to split his lip open. Blood everywhere. It was hard for us to tell if there was a need for stitches because there was so much blood and now it was mixed with sand.

A sweet spanish speaking girl ran over to me with her water bottle to wash the sand off of the cut so that we could see just how deep and long the cut was. John tends to be more reactive than I am so he was panicking and thinking that the boy needed stitches, I on the other hand couldn't see any tissue coming out of the cut so I thought he was fine. Turns out that he quickly fell asleep on the towel on the beach with a big fat lip and scratched chin, no need for stitches. However, we did notice a few weeks later that one of his 2 front teeth was turning grey.........like really grey. When he fell and split his lip he smashed his tooth and killed it dead, does that suit William or what!? The dentist said that it won't affect his permanent tooth, but he will have a grey tooth until he loses it around the age of 7 :)

Liam didn't like doing the disco with the other kids, but he was more than happy to do all of the dance moves on his daddy's lap.

For tonights entertainment there was a Disney show. Ads thoroughly enjoyed watching the Disney show and Hubby and I were moderately impressed. We did however get a good chuckle when the princess' came out in showgirl costumes complete with a thong in the back, that put a new twist on Cinderella.

This was the kids favourite floor show of the trip.
